Since incorporated in 1865, the Town of Cortland has been characterized by hometown living in a warm community atmosphere.  Nestled in rural DeKalb County, Cortland is located along Illinois Route 38 and Somonauk Road.

Cortland is unique from neighboring villages and cities because it is an Incorporated Town.  Our special census conducted in 2007 shows Cortland has a population of 3956 citizens.  Cortland is the third largest Town in Illinois, with only the Towns of Cicero and Normal have a greater population.
